Q. How have your academic and work experiences led you to working with the GBB program?
My academic background spans studies on Accounting and International Trade Policy, and research on Energy and a winning Caribbean Development Agenda. This has closely been interrelated with my regional work experiences, which includes, amongst others, research with the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of the West Indies. These theoretical and practical experiences have not only equipped me with the necessary know-how needed in the professional sphere, they have also deepened my passion and intent to be a driving force of sustainable development in the Caribbean, i.e. green implementation and practices.
Q. Why are you a Green Business Barbados Coach?
I believe in the achievement of a sustainable Caribbean. Given the important nexus that businesses play in country development and competitiveness, the ability of green practices to heighten sustainability measures, and the natural green capacity of Barbados, being a Green Business Barbados Coach allows me to play an essential role in the realization of such an achievement.
Q. What has been your most recent environmental revelation?
My most recent environmental revelation was how toxic so many of my seemingly simple household practices were. Simple things like my bleach and disinfectant routines that I previously presumed was doing more good than harm, I’ve now realized the health effects and the damages to the environment. It’s often said that ignorance is bliss but these realities have made me realize that ignorance actually is risk. Risk to self. Risk to health. Risk to environmental sustainability.
Q. Where might I know you from?
UWI Cave Hill, SALISES Conferences, Junior Achievement, Junior Chamber International, or El Instituto Venezolano para la Cultura y la Cooperación (IVCC)
Q. What is your favorite quote at the moment (you can add two if you can’t choose)?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson
“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” Audrey Hepburn
“Life lived spontaneously from your depth of love is a moment-to-moment gift. It is your art.”David Deida
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Gandhi
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Mother Teresa
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Steve Jobs
Q. For fun you…?
Hike, dance (latin especially), go to the beach (water is my favourite element), listen to music, play tennis (although it’s been too long since I’ve actually seen a court), watch movies and comedy shows, travel (I love discovering new places, new food and experiencing new cultures), try random recipes found on the internet, and ‘lime’ with my family – never a dull moment!
